La vuelta

I was in second year high school when I made my first outfit post. It was on Lookbook, July 19, 2009, back when #ootd did not yet exist. I had earned minimal hypes, but I just remember thinking, "Damn, I'm on the same site as Martine Cajucom," who I had first read about on Preview's Best Dressed Issue of the same year. It wasn't long until I created an actual sartorial blog, Mahilig on Tumblr (which still serves somewhat as my online mood board today), and when my layout preferences had shifted in 2012, I decided to move Mahilig here on Blogger.

The boom of fast fashion and an even faster paced social media to document it in has all been exciting, but eventually, it made me feel like my sense of aesthetic had become cluttered. My semi-intended break from blogging and shying away from #ootd Instagram posts has been--to say the least--liberating. Gone has been the compulsion to shop "because I haven't posted anything new in a while," and although I still profess an undying love for heels above four inches, I have learned that, for all intensive purposes, flats can be cute and are incredibly functional.

I spent the time away from this blog to re-acquaint myself with things I really like, rather than to figure out how I can get my posts trending, and I had told myself I wouldn't go back to blogging until I had found my aesthetic. In a more holistic approach, I had spent the last few months decongesting and weeding out things from my closet, and surprisingly, much of the pieces I retained were purchases I had made from years back. Moreover, these were pieces that looked coherent with the clothes I used as my wardrobe's building blocks while I was still living abroad--clothes that until now, save for the unnecessary layers, are still on constant rotation.

I know now what I want. I've re-discovered Mahilig. I'm ready to go back. (With new hair and a new beau, at that!)
